The Gem Centre was originally started by Ray and Shirley Klibbe in Inverell as a small sapphire cutting business in the late 1960’s.  The aim of the business was to provide a service to the booming sapphire mining trade.  Bill and Pam Gowlett bought the Gem Centre and grew the business to include rough gems, loose gems and set gems from all around the world.  They retired, with Michael Simpson taking The Gem Centre’s reins.  With family in the trade, Michael has been running the business successfully and increasing the range and has only recently added specialist watch restoration to the range of ‘can do’ options The Gem Centre offers.

Over the years The Gem Centre has had many satisfied customers pass through its doors.  Many an enterprising fossicker has found a ‘gem or two’ when fossicking in-store!  With Inverell’s proud sapphire history The Gem Centre has been the bustling centre of the New England sapphire trade.
